WHAT DOES A TRADITIONAL FAMILY SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Each sessions is a little bit different and depends on your family's goals for our time together. Typically,  child or family sessions takes place at the location of your choice.  It could be in your home, at a park, on the streets of Baltimore City, or some place that is special to you and your family.  What matters most is that it is in a place where everyone feels comfortable and its even better if it is a location that is meaningful to you!  During a session, it is my goal to capture your family in a way that is natural and comfortable.  Usually, when working with children, I will spend some time with each child, chatting, playing and taking pictures.  I may spend some time by a window or under a tree with one of the kids and a favorite toy, throw everyone in a pile of leaves, or ask them to run down a hill.  Its all very casual, relaxed and fun!  Of course, we will do some posed shots of the kids and family together, too.

WHAT ABOUT DAY IN THE LIFE SESSIONS?

Day in the Life sessions look just like your life. That's the best part! There is no need to plan outfits or arrange for haircuts. We capture life, just as it is. Day in the Life sessions are my favorite type of session and clients are always thrilled to see the beauty within their everyday moments.

WHAT IS THE COST?

Session fees begin at $275. Collections begin at $595. Most clients spend between $900 and $2500.

Please visit the session pages for more specific pricing information.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE A SESSION?

Please contact me either by email or phone to inquire about a session.  I welcome the opportunity to tell you a little bit more about myself and my work and send you detailed pricing and session information and the Session Agreement.  When you are ready to schedule a session, please complete the Session Agreement and submit your session fee to reserve you date.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR OUR SESSION?

After submission of the Session Agreement and payment of the deposit, I ask that you complete my "About Us" questionnaire.  This gives me some information about your family so I get to know you a little better before we meet.  The questionnaire also lets me know a what you want to achieve during our time together as well as the types of products that interest you.  Next, we will schedule a pre-session time to chat either over the phone or meet in person (your choice) to discuss the session in greater detail, choose a location, set a date, and discuss products and packages.  Of course, I will also answer any questions you may have.

For Storytelling Sessions, all you need to do is get everyone dressed and to the location.  If  we are shooting at your home, you may want to tidy up a bit both inside and in the yard.  Bring along or get out any special items such as lovies, blankets, stuffed animals, a special princess dress, or superhero mask that will help to engage the kids and add meaning to their pictures.  If you have little ones, water, a snack and perhaps an extra clean shirt (my daughter drooled red Skittles all over a white shirt during a session once) may also be helpful.  Let your kids know that they are going to play with a friend and that it's going to be fun, because it is!  Please do not worry about whether or not your kids will cooperate and try not to bribe them, as it usually seems to backfire.  If you have a great attitude, they are likely to have one too!  Once you've done all this, sit back and relax and please do not worry if your kids refuse to cooperate.  It's OK.  My kids rarely want to cooperate, especially at the same time.  I know how to handle it.  Resist the urge (it is hard, I know!) to nag them to smile.  Again, it usually backfires.  Just focus on having fun and encouraging them.  When everyone relaxes and starts having fun, that's when the magic happens and we create the treasured images you want.  And trust me,  even pouty faces can make stunning portraits, and some of the least cooperative kids take the best pictures.

For Day in the Life Sessions, there is little to no planning! These sessions are unscripted, unposed, live-as-it-is documentary photography sessions. You live your life just as you would if I was not there, so there's no need to do anything. There is  If you have older children, I recommend that you plan an activity or two that will encourage family interaction and limit technology use. Otherwise, live your live as you ordinarily would and let me do all the work!

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR TRADITIONAL SESSION?

Please wear something comfortable!  It helps if everyone is wearing the same style of clothes, i.e. casual or dressy.  I have also found that the images look better if we avoid crazy patterns, contrasting colors, or character shirts (sorry, Dora).  Essentially, clothes should complement each other without being too "matchy."  Layers and textures are awesome, as are accessories -- scarves, hats, vests, and hair bows are all great choices.  If you have any questions, I am happy to discuss wardrobe choices during our pre-session consultation. For more tips, please visit my blog post all about this topic.

HOW LONG UNTIL MY IMAGES ARE READY?

Within approximately three weeks, I will be in touch to let you know that your images are ready.  You will have the option of an online gallery or in-person gallery presentation and ordering consultation. In order to provide the best possible personalized service, online gallery ordering takes place within 3 days of delivery of the gallery. When the gallery is ready, I will let you know and you will schedule the release date that begins the three day period (scheduling must be within 2 weeks of notice that gallery is ready). For in-person gallery presentations, orders must be placed at the conclusion of the consultation. The preparation and ordering of prints and products takes time, which I set aside when I schedule your session.  Prompt ordering allows me to provide the best possible service to all my clients.  Products take approximately 4 weeks to produce and deliver.  If digital files are purchased, they are delivered via digital download and include a license for personal use and print lab recommendations.

If you are looking for gift prints, albums, and/or digital images, then the online gallery will probably suit you just fine.  I'm always available by phone to answer questions! If, however, you are considering larger prints or wall products, an in-person session is preferable.  This enables me to help you select the perfect products.  I even have some fabulous software that will show you what an image or grouping will look like on your walls.

Do you offer commercial Photography?

Yes! I offer small business photography, including documentary-style sessions for marketing and social media galleries, headshot sessions, and website imaging. Inquire below for more information.

WHAT IF I AM LOOKING FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT?

Awesome!  I am game for almost anything that is safe and keeping with the general style and philosophy of my work.  Give me a call and lets see what we can do!
