Wobble

young girl walking on balance beam

Being the youngest child of four, my five year old daughter has spent more driving to activities for her sisters and brother than she has participating in them herself. So, at her request, we signed her up for a gymnastics class this spring, and it's been worth every penny to to watch her come into her own. She's developing new skills and hanging onto every word her teacher says. But most of all, she's learning the lessons she needs most. That it's ok to wobble, and it's ok to fall. Everyone does it. No worries. Just hop back up and try again. And don't forget to smile through it all. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have seen this 8 years ago with my oldest, or even a few years ago with my other girls. But it's so clear to me now. And so yes, being the youngest is tough, and you many not get to go see the Easter Bunny or have your photo taken with Santa. But your mom has learned a few things from those who came before you. So I'm going to try to let you learn at your pace, in your own way. And I'm going to try to smile through your wobbles, just like I want you to.
